Deaver Family Genealogy Forum
I spent considerable time researching the Dever line earlier in the month and have reached the conclusion that Richard Dever, of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, was probably the Richard Dever, b. 9 Apr 1612, in Totnes, Devon, England. Richard Dever's father was listed as John Dever. The children of this John Dever were the following: John Dever, b. 10 Jan 1600; Elizabeth Dever, b. 25 Mar 1603; Amey Dever, b. 14 May 1605; Agnes Dever, b. 5 Jun 1607; Rebecca Dever, b. 18 Feb 1609; Richard Dever, b. 9 Apr 1612; and Robert Dever, b. 9 Oct 1614.
I have been particularly interested in the use of the middle name of Richard Dever of Anne Arundel County, when it has been listed as Wilmot. A John Dever married Wilmot Afton, 4 May 1588, in Widecombe in the Moor, Devon, England. If it can be proven that Richard's middle name was Wilmot, that might give credance to the theory that these could possible be the parents of Richard Dever of AA Co.
I have, also, been interested in the use of the surname of Grace Dever as Fitzmorris. I have not found a record of a Grace Fitzmorris but have found one of a Grace Gilbert, b. c1610. She was the daughter of Thomas and Johane Huxham Gilbert. Another interesting item that might indicate that Grace's name was Gilbert is the fact that there were Gilberts in AA Co., and were in the same parish as the Devers. In fact, John Dever was admonished by the church for cohabitting with Dorothy Gilbert, the wife of William Gilbert.
If anyone else is researching in this area I would appreciate any imput you might have. I had contacted a genealogist, in Devon, who had agreed to do some research for me, but had to cancel for personal reasons. I hope to find someone else in the fall who will search some of the Devonshire records for Devers.
