Deaver Family Genealogy Forum
Dear Louis, The Dever name has taken on many different spellings since the arrival of the immigrant ancestors in America, however, in England, the spelling seems to be Dever in most instances. The spelling of a name is of little significance, but the phonics of a name is usually the key to finding family groups, thus soundex was developed to help researchers.
The theory that Richard and Grace Dever were from Scotland was introduced by an early researcher and has been adopted extensively by other researcher, however no documentation has been introducte to confirm their origin. I have researched the available Scottish records and find no evidence that Richard or Grace were from Scotland. If there are researchers who can confirm this, I would appreciate the source.
It is, also, my belief that Richard and Grace Dever only had one son, John, and possibly a second, named Thomas. I welcome a discussion on this.
