So far all the Deavours I have found in the US are connected somehow to George Deavours born about 1757 SC. He was my gggg grandfather. It is believed that
George Deavours was of French Huguenot descendancy. The original spelling of the name may have been Deveaux. There is immigration records on an Elizabeth and John Deverax in Maryland (Land Patents 1633-1680) Hall of Records, Annapolis, v 18-18a, Lever 15, p 501) Emmigrated 1678. Jane Devorax, (Land Patents ..V 6, Liber 4, p 549) Immigrated 1678, John Devereux (Land Patents.....V 6, Liver 4, p. 70) immigrated 1678
Some spellings of the name found so far include. Debours, Devours, Debors, Davours, Deaver, Deavers, Deavor, Deavours.
George is on the 1790 Spartanburg SC census. He is listed as George Dovers. George Divers (Deavours) was on the 1800 Spartanburg Co, SC. census with 4 sons and one daughter.
Georger Deavers. dec'd Last Will and Testament. dated February 18, 1829, proved January 1830. Names wife, Rachel and children: Abraham, John, Isaac, Christopher, Elizabeth, Nole, and Sarah McCracking. Habersham, MIC.
George's daughter, Elizabeth Deavours married William Z. Ford. After his death, she moved with most of her children to Cherokee Co. GA, and then in 1845 moved to Benton/Calhoun Co. Al. where she died.
More likely than not, your Deavour and George will be kin.
