It appears that Pete is probably a descendant of the Haywood County Deavers. Here's what I've turned up:

There is a private tree that claims that Pete was actually born in I.T. (Oklahoma)
I haven't contacted the owner of that tree. Note that in the 1910 census, his
sister Ora does claim that she was born in Oklahoma.

It appears that Pete's daughter Gladys was canvassed twice in the 1920 census,
both in her parents' household in Texas and at her grandparents' in Oklahoma.
(That is not particularly unusual).

Another subscriber's tree lists Arch Singleton DEAVER, b. 1847, Haywood, NC,
son of Nathaniel DEAVER (1806-1886) and Adriah DYER (1811- ). Archibald DEAVER
can be found in his parents' household in Haywood County in the 1850 and 1860
censuses. If all that proves true, then the ancestry from there back to Maryland is fairly well established.
