Hurshel, my research shows Ira Baker & Delila
Deboard as the parents of Ambrose Baker. This
was discovered in Francis family records at
the Public Library in West Jefferson, Ashe
County, NC. Ambrose Baker married Charity
Francis on Dec. 25, 1883, as recorded at the
courthouse in West Jefferson, NC. I believe
the 1860 Census shows Delila, Ambrose, James,
and Robert as "Baker" in Grayson County, VA.
Ambrose entered the service towards the latter part of the Civil War, in the 18th PA.
Calvary. I lose track of Delila et al at that
time. Ambrose is in Maryland after the War, is married to Mary Oden, and had 2 children.
He divorces or is widowed, and returns to VA
by about early 1800's. He marries Charity in
1883, and buys 36 acres from the "Perkins"
family, at Rugby, Grayson County, VA. This
property was still in the family until the late 1960's. It is behind the Rescue Squad at
Rugby along the creek. I will look into the
spelling as "Lilah B. Deboard" and the Mink
connection.-thanks, Michael J, Baker (Mick)
