I have been trying to refind a "bio" of Rhoda Ward DeBard Howard that as I recall was published in the mid 1880's in one of the newspapers around Bath county (probably either in Mt Sterling, Winchester or Owinsville. The "bio" said Rhoda was the oldest citizen in the county and was either 116 or 118 years old and still going storng. (Even in those days a good journalist never let the facts get in the way of a good story). I belive Rhoda was really somewhere in her mid 90's at the time the bio was published rather than the very advanced age that was claimed. Has anyone seen this "bio" or have any ideas how I can find it again?
PS: I belive Rhoda Ward was the widow of Jesse DeBard (not sure how he spelled the surname, but most descendants used the spelling of DeBard) A family story that I have heard was that Jesse DeBard went back to NC to visit relatives and was never heard from again. After a respectable period, Rhoda remarried James Howard in 1831; some researchers also indicate she may have also married a Little someplace in there.
