BIG STONE GAP, Va. — Robert DeBoard, 74,
died Friday (March 30, 2001) at Wellmont
Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.

He was born in Lee County, Va., the son of the late
Samuel and Ollie (Coomer) DeBoard. He spent
most of his life in Big Stone Gap, Va. He was a
retired painter with Brummitt Decorating &
Quesenberry Contractors in Big Stone Gap for
many years. He was also a great deer hunter. He
donated funds to help build Lonesome Pine
Hospital. He was of the Holiness faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma
Cooper DeBoard.

Surviving are two sons, Bobby “Duke” DeBoard
and wife, Teresa and Rickie Lynn DeBoard and
wife, Miranda, all of Big Stone Gap, Va.; one
daughter, Patricia K. Sturgill, Big Stone Gap, Va.;
nine grandchildren, Bobby, Donna, Donnie, Scottie,
Ricky Lynn Jr., Curtis Robert, Janet Lynn, Lisa Ann
and Donella; five great-grandchildren, Alexis Kay,
Brandon Lee, Spencer Allen, Melodee and Mason;
three brothers, James DeBoard, Salem, Ind., Frank
DeBoard, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Paul Ray
“Pooge” DeBoard, Bentonville, Ark.; three sisters,
Bessie Maxfield, Oklahoma, Reine Ball, Bristol,
Tenn., and Charlene Caldwell, Salem, Ind.; several
nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Madeline
King, Big Stone Gap, Va.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at
Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in
the funeral home chapel with Brother Duke Barker
and Brother J.J. Vaughan officiating.

Burial will follow in Powell Valley Memorial
Gardens.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
