Seems like the Deboard line is a bit difficult to trace. I have been looking for more information specifically on my great grandmother, Bertha Aslee Deboard aka “Bird”(b. December 16, 1886 in Sabula, Missouri, d. Feb. 10, 1948). Bertha married Frank Daniel Hinkle (b. Dec 16, 1881, d. Apr 17 1969) on Dec 11, 1901.
The story goes that she was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian that was adopted by David Huston Deboard (b. 1854 in Iron County, Missouri, d. 1933, buried in Beulah Baptist Cemetery in Brunot, Missouri) and his wife, Mary E. Toppins. She had a sibling, Almeda (b. Feb 1892). Almeda’s married name was Henry.
When Mary died, David remarried in 1879 to a Mary B.C. Hinkle (b. 1865 d. 1944). They had two children, Lola Mae (b. abt. Mar 1905) and Maggie Bell (b. Jun 17. 1902). I was fortunate enough to get to have several conversations with Lola. She verified the story about Bertha being Indian and adopted by David and Mary.
Lola married Christopher Columbus Sullivan (b. Jul 7, 1898) on Dec 23, 1920.
David’s parents were Enoch (b. May 1821 d. aft. 1900) and Mary Ann ???. Besides David, they had five other children, Steven Gilmore Deboard (b. 1858), Mary E. Deboard (b. 1862), Nancy P. Deboard (b. 1864), John H. Deboard (b. 1870), and Martha A. Deboard (b. 1872).
Enoch’s parents were Jesse Deboard and Mary ???.
Does anyone else have this line?
