I don't have any "real proof of this, but circumstantial evidence would indicate that the Martha Ann Debord b 1841 that married Erastus Posey Well was a niece of the Martha Debord b 1801 that married William Hill. The Martha born 1801 was probably a daughter of the John Debord b abt 1770 that married Martha Edwards in 1795 Surry Co NC. The Martha born 1841 was almost certainly a daughter of the James Debord b abt 1808 that married Sarah Griffin. The James b abt 1808 was probably a son of the above John Debord b abt 1770 and Martha "Patsey" Edwards. This Debord family moved from Surry/Wilkes NC to Rutherford Co NC before 1810 and then shows in the 1830 and 1840 census for Buncombe Co NC. Most, but not all of the children of the John Debord b abt 1770 moved to Gilmer Co Georgia in the 1840's. From my research, it appears that all of the Debord, DeBord, DeBorde and Deboard families around Gilmer Co Georgia are descendants of the John Debord from Buncombe Co NC. This is also the only Debord family that I have found in Rutherford and Buncombe counties. From Gilmer Co GA, this family spread out to various counties in Georgia with various spellings of the surname. So, a lot of my speculation is based on this being the only Debord family in Rutherford/Buncombe and the only Debord family in Gilmer Georgia.
