Hi Kathy,

I have a certified copy of the death certificate for Martin DeBord. It does in fact list his parents as Andrew DeBord and Elizabeth Baker.

In 1840 it seems Elizabeth was living in Owen County, IN. Both George and Martin are listed there along with Joseph and Nancy (DeBord) Phipps. Listed in the home of Joseph Phipps on the 1840 census is a woman that would fit the age of Elizabeth. Through other sources it is clear Elizabeth was in the area at the time. I have a book on Owen County history which lists Elizabeth DeBord and "Jane" Phipps as being early members of an Old-School Baptist church started in 1840.

My guess is this Elizabeth might not be the daughter of Samuel Baker. I have seen her listed as the daughter of Andrew Baker but I have seen no proof as to who her parents were.

I hope this helps.

Olivia
