Hi Jeff
I too have been working on my DECOUTEAU link at Turtle Mountain, Belcourt. Could you please tell me if you have any information concerning the marriage of Marguerite DECOUTEAU (DESCOTEAUX dit BATON) b. 1834, dau of Joseph DESCOTEAU (dit some records have shown) and Marie VIVIER?
Other direct descents of this link say Marguerite DECOUTEAU m. John ROSSIGNOL dit BLUE "AT" Turtle Mountain. Prior to this marriage was the possible marriage of Marguerite DESCOTEAUX and Chas CAVILEER, one child born names Alexander CAVALIER b 1853 and the possibility of a dau also b. of this couple named Rachel CAVALIER b. c1854, married Corbert GLADU.
I am curious to know if this DESCOTEAUX family may have been from the Saulteaux tribe???
Also Curious to know if you might know of the possibility of any Charles CAVILEER history over at the Rez??? I have numerous writings of Chas and his visits(some where he stayed for months at a time in the early 1850s. In the famous Red River Journal 1851 by Chas CAVILEER... Chas Cavileer speaks of his travels with Father Belcourt, apparently, good freinds. He was well aquainted with the more prominant men at that time for he was a government man himself. Any help much appreciated.
