I'm helping a friend try to find information on his Grandfather, Chief Basil DeCoteau. All he knows is that he thinks he died on the Bad River Rez in Wisconsin. And was born in Odanah, Wisconsin somewhere around the late 1870's or so. He was active on the three-state Ojibway Tomahawk band. His picture was reportedly on the cover of Look Magazine prior to 1959 as the "typical American Indian. One of his wifes was Clara Blackbird DeCoteau. My friend says his grandmother was Minnie Cooper as far as he knows. We thought Minnie might be short for Margaret, just speculation tho. Any help greatly appreciated.
Liz
