Notes for NANCY CASSY WOLFE:
Hopewell Methodist Churches built 1800,1893,1939 and 1961. The old cemetery is located in the Hopewell-Hollis area of Rutherford County. It is located about 1.4 miles east of the present Hopewell Methodist Church, north of Ellenboro. It is situated in an island of pine trees in an open field about 500 feet off the north side of the Hopewell Road (County road #1760). The cemetery covers about 2 acres and contains several hundred old graves, but unfortunately only about four of them have inscribed markers. Berry Rollins Bowen only trip back to North Carolina was when he returned to his former home in 1899 to place a tombstone over his mother's grave.
The tombstone reads:
Nancy C.
wife of W. H. Bowen mother of B. R. and D. C. Bowen
Born 8-26-1834
Died 3-29-1867
Sleep on mother and take thy rest until we meet again.
