Michele,

My ancestor Richard Dean/Deen of Washington and Laurens County, GA, had a son Ransom L Deen. Richard, b. 1760 in NC, had Micajah, Sally, Elijah, Ransom L, and another daughter, all born between abt 1780 and 1800+. My father Thomas H. Dean wrote a book about this family: The Deans: Two Hundred Years Across the South. We have information on the descendants of Micajah, Sally Dean Hightower, and Elijah, but never found Ransom L again after the 1820 Laurens census except when he went to Muscogee County, GA in 1840 to claim his share of Richard's estate. My father looked EVERYWHERE. Tonight, quite by accident as I was looking for members of my grandmother's side of the family, I came across a listing for name changes in the state of Georgia from 1800-1856 (http://www.westberry-moses.com/main/files/namechange.pdf). As I scrolled down the page, there it was: Andrew Jackson Culpepper had his name changed to Andrew Jackson Deen by his father Ransom E (sic) Deen, Laurens Co, GA, 12-14-1819. The transcriber could easily have mistaken the loop of a capital L in script for an E.

I called my father, and read him your postings about your Andrew Jackson Deen's son Ransom Lafayette Deen, etc. We are both convinced that this is indeed, Richard Deen's grandson, the son of Ransom L Deen.

I am delighted to welcome you to a family of very active genealogists and hope that you will, after all of this time, access this posting and/or that you will receive the email I sent to your personal posted address.

BTW, the Dean/Deen family has enough teachers in its line to staff its own school.

Your Georgia/Alabama/Virginia cousin,
Sharon Dean Lee
