For the past seven years I have collecterd bits and pieces of info on this family trying to find out about my ggfather Hardy Dear who died in 1860 in Harrison Co. Ms. He had one known son William J. L. Dear.

I am going to try and share the info I have collected as time permits me to.

The Dears are of Scotch descent. It is not known where or when they came to this country, or if they were born here, but Joseph an Patience Hardy Dear are our (my family) progenitors and they lived in Barnwell District S. C.. and had at least four knows sons. Joseph had a brother John that died in .C ca 1728. They spelled the name Deer until the early 1800's then changed it to Dear.

The sons of Joseph and Patiene Hardy Dear were Willis, Mack, James, John and Hardy.dau. Charlotte. Mack, James and Hardy moved to Rankin Co. Ms and John settled in Yazoo Co. Ms.

Hardy m. Sarah Cole was a probate judge and ived in Rankin Co. Ms had one child no further info,

John married ? had a family in Yazoo, Co Ms.

James b 1798 m Margaret ? she died in 1880, had children Willis, Ellen, Amanda, Sarah Ann, Betsy.

Mack b 1780-82 died before 1840 m 1. Frances Herren children of this marriage were Margaret, Darling, Herrin, Hardy.

2. wife was Emily Owen children of this marriage were-Sarah Ann, James, Owen, Hansford, William Mack, Mary Ann, Emily.

3. wife Mary Webb they had one child a son Houston.

I do have some of marriages of the children if anyone is interested.

If anyone has a question about Deers/Dears from S.C. and Ms I will be happy to look through my papers and see if I can find something that might help you.

I will try to add more as time permits.
