Further research finds "Nute" in the 1880 Census (Washington, Adams, Iowa) as Newton Deer, merchant, 30, b. IN. His wife is listed as Emma, 29, b. IN and children are Almeda 8, Nettie 7, Flora 5, Luther 3, Frankie 1, all born in Iowa. The 1850 census (Washington, Adams, Iowa) lists a child "James" age 10 with parents John and Mary Deer. This would fit as this same person which would mean his name was probably James Newton Deer. Are their any decendents to this family?
