Deer/Hirsch name...noticed some confusion

I noticed some confustion as to where the "Deer" name might derive and thought perhaps some of you would benefit by checking out the Germanna site, there are lots of Deer families beginning in the 1700's. It certainly helped me find many generations of my family a few years ago. Just enter your family name in the search mode and you may be very surprised. "Hirsch" I am told, literally translated means "meat of the deer", consequently the english name "Deer"
