I think I am working on the same line. James Hardy Deer (born 1785 in Marion Co, SC)married Mary Alice (born 1785, SC). They moved to Henderson Co, TN in 1830-35. My information (other internet sites show more kids) shows three sons (james - yours, jennings, and joseph or 'hansford') I am tracing the joseph or hansford line.

I recently found some info indicating that James Hardy Deer's parents may have been John Deer (b 1741, d 1766 SC) and Elizabeth Smith (b 1745, d 1766, SC). They had three kids John (b 1767 SC), Samuel (1769 SC), and James (b 1771).

This shows a different dob for James but it could be the same? I have a letter dated 1939 where my family inquired about the Deer family and was told that 'James Sr and his brother Sam' moved to Henderson Co, TN in 1835.

Does this sound the same? Do you know if your "Hardy Deer' had a brother name Samuel or anything about their parents? Do you know if your James had a brother named Jennings or Joseph or Hansford?

Thanks! Teryl
