My Grandfather came from Bari Italy, and my grandmother came from Grumo Italy. I had always heard that their name was Difino and when they imigrated it was changed to DeFino by an imigration guy. When I reaserched the name, the information I got was that it most likely means "decendent of Serafino" (An Italian Night in the middle ages.
