Lewis Degraft (many spelling variations)and his wife Elizabeth Lowman had a son and daughter who were born between 1810 and 1820, in Baltimore County, Maryland. Lewis was naturalized in Philadelphia in 1800 and stated that he had been a citizen of France.
By 1803, he had moved to Baltimore and married Elizabeth Lowman.
I have spent twenty years trying to learn more about this family. Lately, I have been studying the relationship of their son, Lewis #3 (born circa 1812), a blacksmith, to his neighbors (possibly relatives?) who were also blacksmiths and how they moved, seemingly, as a group from one area in Baltimore County and Howard County to the next, apparently as work materialized.
As I find each new clue, I have come to realize that the puzzle is much bigger than I expected.
Has anyone traced their line to a female Degraf/Degroft who was born in MD between 1810-1820?
Many thanks for any thoughts.
