Michael DeGroff Sr. was born ca 1778 in then York Co. (now Adams Co.), PA. He and his wife Eave (Aue) DeGroff raised their family in Westmoreland Co., their children born in the late 1810s and early 1820s. My g-g-grandmother, their daughter Elizabeth (who married Martin Clever), was said in one reference to have died near Gettysburg in 1862. However, her home at the time was Robinson Twp, West of Pittsburgh. I suspect that she may have been visiting family in the Gettysburg area, because there were DeGroffs living there at the time. I haven't found any source that says she died in the Robinson Twp. area. Nor have I made any connections between my Michael DeGroff Sr. and the Gettysburg DeGroffs. I am currently working on the idea that Michael DeGroff Sr. was a son of Abraham and Catrina (Vorhees) DeGraff of then York Co., PA.
