Thanks for your response. As I read your message, I wonder about some descrepancies between our records. The list of children from James Samuel and Elizabeth we each have has some difference. My Aunt Elsie gathered most of her information from other much older family members (some of them in-laws), and of course it is very possible that their memories were not quite correct. My Aunt Elsie lived in Wisconsin for several years, and did research some records of some kind, but I don't know what. Most of the information I have I cannot prove. As I mentioned to Joan in my e-mail to her yesterday, My Aunt Elsie gave me a picture of Captain James Samuel and a woman my mother told me she thought was his second wife, name unknown. On the back of the picture it says: "Civil War Capt. James Samuel DeGroff came from France to Waldo Wisconsin with 3 brothers in early 1800. Went to Striker, Ohio where he married Elizabeth Sours. This picture is taken in K.C.K. around 12th & Bunker. Woman is 2nd wife. Name unknown." I also have a picture (of two pictures) of him with his first wife, Elizabeth (Sours/Sowers). I would be happy to scan these pictures, but first have to learn how to send attachments to e-mail. I also sent your mother all the information I have from the copy of the family tree my Aunt gave me before she died. I am sorry I have no other information. My mother and all her siblings are dead now, and I don't have anyone older in the family to ask more information.
