Just the opposite my family is from the Alamosa, Co. Deherrera decendents our family has always related the story that there were so many Herrera's in the San Luis Valley that the mail was always lost so they changed the name from Herrera to Deherrera to differentiate the two strains of Families my Great Great Great Grandfather was Jose Lorenzo Herrera Married to Antonia Gallegos and Also Ignacia Lobato in the early 1800's in Santa Clara N.M. yet family records show his son as Jose Acacio DeHerrera born April 11, 1844. In my family search I find very few Deherrera's any where else but southern Co. Many Herrera's in New Mexico so I think the name was changed in that cross over to southern Colorado. My email:
