I believe it was Anthoney de Herrera Dominquez who asked "Do most de Herreras come from Colorado" and not I.
The de Herrera or Herrera surname is found among the settlers in New Mexico in 1598. These people settled along the Rio Grande in San Juan de Los Caballeros and in what is Chamita, NM now. There were also Herreras who arrived in NM in 1693 with Diego de Vargas after the Pueblo revolt.
My fathers grand father, Antonio Maria de Herrera was born in Chamita, NM in 1851. In about 1865, the family moved to Antonito, Colorado, where he is buried after he died in 1894. My father grew up in Caņon, Colorado.
So my answer is: No!, all of the Herreras originated in NM.
