Greg,
I haven't run across any information about Leonard Dekle's parents. I wonder, though, If you've seen the 1850 census with him on it? I saw it and it listed Leonard, born 1798. Is that he? It might give the state his parents were from.

A more interesting thing may be for you to join the Dekle DNA Project. Here's the web site and info about the Dekle families they have: home.comcast.net/~libpjr1/dekledna.html
It costs $149 for a 25 marker test and takes 5 weeks to get it back. I think my dad's going to do it.

I am descended from Canvasie Dekle and Bazzle Jones. She was the daughter of Littleton Dekle and Susan Warren. She was from Metter.

If you look at that site you will see a little history about the first Georgia Dekle, John Dekle of Hanover, Germany. He and his two brothers were stowaways on a ship that landed, I think, in Savannah. His brothers went North and he stayed here. I think we're pretty much all descended from him.
Also do a Google search for Dekle genealogy and you'll run across some places that have access tot he definitive book on Dekle genealogy.
In my family, there's been a comment forwarded down through the generations about the "Dekle streak". It is stubborness. lol...I can see it in my family! I hope that stubborness will help you keep plugging away.

Hope this helps you.
Becky
