Hi, I think we communicated a long while ago about our Delamont ancestors. I have recently taken up genealogy again and thought I would make contact as unfortunately I have lost my old papers.

My g.g.grandmother was Sarah Delamont, baptised 06.05.1860 in Hardington Mandeville, Somerset. She married my g.g.grandfather William Symes on 17.11.1880 in Winterbourne Steepleton. My mother's family is Symes, descended from William and Sarah.

Sarah's ancestors all seem to have come from Hardington Mandeville. Her father was Louis/Lewis (bap 24.12.1837, spouse Matilda Gillingham); his father was another Louis (bap 15.10.1811, spouse Sarah Sartin); his father another Louis (bap 25.09.1785, spouse Mary Culver); his father (though I am not sure about this) Levi (spouse Grace).

I must confess that most of my info comes from a secondary (though pretty reliable) source that I have not checked against the parish records. But does any of this fit in with your research? Do you have any idea as to the origin of the family (other than the possibility that they might have been Huguenots, like the Sartins and other West Country families with French sounding (though grammatically incorrect) names)?

I have further information I can send you by e-mail.

I would also be interested to hear from anyone else who might have links to these Delamonts!

Kind regards,
