The Patriots War & Battle at Windmill
Trying to locate information on American and Canadian Patriots' send to Van Diemans Land between 1839 –1844.
A little known but no less important lesson in the fight for independence…
where American sympathizers fought with and for Canada’s independence from Great Britain.
In 1838 the turning point came at the Battle of Windmill. The Patriots are captured,
and transported to Fort Henry in Kingston Ontario Canada for trail. Twelve patriots were hung;
others where sent into exile to the British penal colony at Van Dieman’s Land in Australia, now call Tasmania.
Thousands` of Patriot participants where members of the Hunters Lodges which
could be found in almost every town and village from Detroit Michigan to Montreal Canada.
Leonard Delino (Delano) is listed at one of those men who fought, and transported to the
penal colony in 1840 aboard the convict ship HMS Buffalo, he was listed as age 25 POB Jefferson Co NY.
Your help in finding any connection /information on Leonard Delano would be greatly Appreciated.
