Ryan -

I have a Frederick Mortimer Delano, b. 1 Sep 1842 in NY. He is the son of Mortimer Frederick Delano, b. 25 Feb 1800 in Aurora, Cayuga, NY and Sarah Elizabeth Guernsey. He is listed in the 1850 census with his mother and siblings in Detroit, Wayne, MI (page 228 or if you use Ancestry.com image 454 and 455). His grandparents were Dr. Frederick Delano, b. 12 May 1765 in Amenia, Dutchess, NY, and Joanna Doty, b. 11 Jan 1764/1765 in Sharon, Litchfield, CT (just over the NY/CT state line). They were married on 26 Nov 1787 and later settled in Aurora, Cayuga, NY.

Frederick Mortimer Delano married on 8 Dec 1892 to Georgiana Thomas, b. 16 Jul 1867. They had only one child, a son, Frederick Mortimer Delano, Jr., b. 1897. This sounds like it could have been a second marriage since their birth dates were about 25 years apart. I did not have any other wives listed for him, though that does not mean there wasn't one.

I have not found any documentation that proves any connection to Vermont, however I have suspicions that there is one. My Delano line may connect to this one, but I cannot prove it.

My line connects to a Frederick A. Delano, b. 3 Aug 1787 possibly in Grand Isle Co., VT or Ballston, Saratoga, NY (just over the NY/VT state line). The GHAAHD has his parents listed as Dr. Delano, b. abt 1767 and Zada Beach, b. 20 Oct 1769 in Salisbury, Litchfield, CT (just across the NY/CT line near Amenia, Dutchess, NY). There is no first name listed for Dr. Delano and I have been unable to determine whether he is the same Dr. Frederick Delano of Aurora, Cayuga, NY.

What I do know is that Frederick A. Delano first married 11 Feb 1816 to Cyntha Fisk, b. 10 Sep 1791 in Brookfield, VT, d. 30 Jun 1826 in South Hero, Grand Isle, VT. He second married 8 Apr 1827 to Caroline Pixley, b. 4 Feb 1801 in South Hero, VT. They had several children who headed west, stopping in the Ohio/Kentucky/Maryland area for awhile before ultimately arriving in Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas.

I also know that Zada Beach later married a John Thomas, b. 1766 in Amenia, Dutchess, NY, d. 21 Mar 1812 in Grand Isle, Grand Isle, VT. Zada died 19 Feb 1854 and is buried in Chazy, Clinton, NY.

I see alot of similarities between these two Delano families, yet I cannot find the connection that would make this all one big, happy family.

I hope this gives you a direction for your further research. I would be most interested in any information that you may find concerning a Vermont connection. Please keep in touch.

Regards,
Linda Scott
