Do you know where in Maine William Delano moved from and if he had a son, William, born in either 1799 or 1800? We have a grave in the woods in Lincolnville, ME of William Delano who died at age 26 on March 15, 1826 and and we are struggling to figure out who he was. When he died the land was not yet inhabited and he is the only known grave in that spot and there is no history of him in the town. He seems to have arrived after the 1820 census and obviously died before the 1830 one.

He has a beautiful gravestone and epitaph so someone cared when he died.
there is a carved earn and weeping willow at the top.
It reads:
Sacred to the memory of William Delano
who died march 15, 1826

His Savior's smiles dispell'd the gloom
And smooth'd his passage to the tomb.

There is also a foot stone with his initials.

Any help would be much appreciated. We care for his stone and the cemetery even though it is deep in the woods and we have no idea who he is.
