A cousin of mine did a lot of research on the Delegals (Catherine Delegal is my ggggg grandmother). She too believed that the name originated from the town of Aigle in France. She believed the town was in Normandy.According to her a 'de l'Aigle' fought with William the Conqueror in 1066 when the Normans invaded England. The name was Anglosized after the move to England. Our particular branch then emigrated to the US, I believe in the early or mid 1700s.Catherine's branch of the family ended up in Nova Scotia, Canada (they were loyalists during the American Revolution).
