Hi Judith,

Thanks for sharing information about this family! Delgado is the correct spelling.

My husband's grandfather, Robert G. Delgado b.1901 (sister of Carmen Isabel or Isabel Carmen), researched the Delgado family history. He even traveled to Spain and located the graves of his ancestors. Unfortunately, the information he shared with my husband's family has been misplaced and I am trying to locate additional relatives he might have given copies to.

The information I posted back in 2001 was from a brief family history written by a younger sibling of Isabel and Robert- Marguerite (also known as Maggie). She had translated notes their father had written and then added contemporary information. Unfortunately, by the time I became aware of this fascinating information, both Marguerite and her daughter had died.

I know that family meant a lot to Robert G. Delgado and my husband remembers attending large Delgado family reunions in south Florida as a child. Unfortunately, my father-in-law (Robert E. Delgado) died when my husband was only 13. I feel like there are other copies of the research Robert G. Delgado copiled which includes information going back to Spain; I would LOVE to find a copy.

According to one source I found on the internet, the Delgados may have come from Santander, Spain. This is consistent with the little bit my husband does recall of what his grandfather told him. My husband said he believes after leaving their fishing village on the northern coast of Spain (in or near the Basque region), his Delgado ancestors went to the Canary Islands, then Cuba, before entering Key West in 1879. I have traced the family back to Luca Delgado bc 1810 in Cuba. He can be found in the 1880 census living with his son's family (Pablo Diego Delgado) in Key West, Florida. The family history we had been given stops at Pablo Diego Delgado.

Once again, thanks for sharing your information!
Lisa James Delgado
