I just responded to a previous message you received from a Brian Delmore. I am from the MN Delmores. My grandfather is James Patrick of Altoona , WI his father is John who arrived at 17 from Ireland.
Sister Elizabeth Delmore has done extensive research on the family--especially the family "Lore". She taught library science at St Kat's in St Paul MN and spent summers with students in Ireland and England.
My great grandfather arrived in the US and came thru New Orleans. He was traveling with his brother. He ended up settling in Lyndon Station, WI. His brother according to family history headed west and was lost to the family. At about the same time they arrived in the US at least one of their sisters were sent to Australia.
Sister Elizabeth has traced the family name and our branch all the way back to before William the C. of England--Again 2 brothers went with William in 1040 into England. One was granted lands in England the other was granted lands in Ireland. You see the Delmore family name throughout history associated with court activity.
The brothers who arrived thru New Orleans had been in some type of trouble in Ireland and could not go back. Not surprising during the era we are talking about.
Hope this helps--your great grandfather may be that lost brother. Let me know if any of this makes sense.
