The Delorme originated when Francois Fafard added dit Delorme to his name. He was born in Hotot, Evreux, France onJan 08,1630, came to Canada approx 1650 and married a Marie Richard on Nov 11, 1656 in Trois Rivieres, QUE. He was the first Delorme in Canada.
After six generations they dropped the Fafard and kept Delorme.
Where and why they took the Delorme name is unknown---were there elm trees around, which we figure was the reason.
They were four brothers(two took the name of Delorme) and were coureurs-de-bois and worked with the king as interpreters. I found an St Anaciet, QUE and wouldn't be surprised that some stayed that far north.
I hope this helps. Let's keep in contact. Bernie and Cecile
