According to some old correspondence I have with a Canadian genealogist (1966), "the Delorme families come from three different groups in the Quebec province: the Lemay dit Delorme, the Riel dit Delorme, and the Henault dit Delorme. They are not relative and they were coming from three different provinces of France."

He further stated, "...Louis Riel (1844-1885) leader in the North West rebellions of 1870 and 1885, was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, the son of Louis Riel and Marguerite Boucher, a half breed woman, and grandson of Jean-Baptiste Riel, a native of Berthier, Quebec."

Hope this helps. You might join the Metis-L list serve on and post your query to the members. They are very helpful.
