Delp/Delph DNA Surname Study
A Delp/Delph Surname DNA Study has recently been established to determine the relationships between the various Delp/Delph families in the United States and worldwide. There are three main Delp/Delph families in the US which standard genealogical research has yet to connect: the 1. PA family; 2. Culpepper/Madison Co., VA family; and 3. Grayson Co., VA family. Most Delp/Delphs in the US tie into one of these three groups. DNA testing will determine if any or all of these families have a common male ancestor.
In case you aren't familiar with the process, DNA testing is now available as a tool for genealogical research.Men receive their Y-chromosome DNA virtually unchanged from their fathers, paternal grandfathers, paternal gt. grandfathers, etc.DNA testing can determine if two or more men descend from a common male ancestor. This can be an invaluable tool for answering certain genealogical questions that standard research can't resolve - like whether the PA; Culpepper/Madison Co., VA; and Grayson Co., VA Delps/Delphs have a common male ancestor.I participated in a Walker Surname DNA Study a few years ago and have since had great success in tracing my Walker line.
The Y-DNA test is fast, simple, and painless.Upon request, Family Tree DNA will send you a kit in the mail containing a special swab, vial, and self addressed envelope.Simply rub the swab on the inside of your cheek, seal it in the vial, and send it back to FTDNA in the envelope. When testing is complete, FTDNA will notify you of your results and the Delp/Delph Surname Study will compare your results to other participants, interpret the data, and post a summary of the findings on the study web page.
Attached below is a link to the Delp/Delph Surname DNA Study, the FTDNA Website, and a video on Genetic Genealogy. If you are a male with the surname Delp, Delph, Depp, Tilp or some other variation; I hope you will chose to participate in the study.Your test results will be a key factor in determining relationships between the various families in the US and perhaps abroad as well.If you're not a male Delp/Delph, but know one (father, brother, cousin), please invite them to join.
Thanks,
Randy Walker
