According to census records, James W. Demby was a Jewelry and a Lawyer. Also according to Bates' family stories there were two Bates Brothers living with their aunt in Arkansas
Martha Demby, I assumed. This was at the beginning of the Civil War. One went across the State Line to Missouri and joined a Michigan Light Artillery Company, but the other brother came back to Cherokee County, Georgia and joined the Confederate Army. Andrew Jackson Bates( union soldier survived but his brother, Francis Marion Bates died in 1862.
Do you have any information on James W.'s wife or daughters.
Thank you for your help.
Alpharetta, GA
