This is a Dement family we know very little about. We have had one member who was a descendant, and she submitted the information we have on him. However, it seems that the Matthew you know of is of a later time. The one we know of lived in St.Mary's County Maryland, was married to Eleanor and had children named Elizabeth, Thomas, Harriett, Henry, Ann and Elijah. All were legal infants at the time of their father's death and all obtained full age by 1830.They seem to have been conntcted to the George Dement family based on some families connected to them. This Matthew was listed in the 1790 census of St. Mary's County next door to George Dement. Eleanor, maiden name unknown, is listed as head of household on the 1820 census. The one you are searching for may be a descendant of this Matthew or may simply be from another family and given the name. We do know of other Dements who lived in MS.
