Members of Robson-Savage Post American Legion conducted of the services. Burial was at Middlesex Cemetery.
Nelson H. Demorest was a member of Company G
189th New York Volunters recruited in Steuben County and as a boy of 16 participated in the Battle of Hatchers Run & in the Weldon Railroad Raid, two crucial Civil War Skirmishes. He served 9 months,saw Abraham Lincon many times and often spoke of seeing President Lincoln and on one occasion had the privilege of shaking the president's hand.
Nelson Demorest, each year attended an outing for veterans in the area whch was held at Canandaigua N.Y. by the late Justice, Robert F. Thompson and at his home in Middlesex. Nelson pointed out wih pride photographs of these gatherings. He also attended the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gettyburg, last July accompanied by son,John.
For the past year Nelson's eysight has been failing. But each Memorial Day found him in the line of march in a Memorial Day Parade in the village.
Survivors are two sons John of Kenmore and George Demorest of Addison, one daughter Mrs. Nellie Smith of Middlesex.
