As with any mystery, keep plugging at it. Our family is ckock full of mysteries. It seems that even though there are many like me that research and try to fix our genealogy, the local family members at times leave out big chunks of information. This is the first time a person who lived for an appreciable amount of time was left out while all the others were listed. Most of us use the Census to verify entries if we don't have direct family input. Very odd...
So, John and Sarah actually had four boys and John had a fifth later. If you can e-mail me digital copies of the info you have, I will dig into the Demarest Genealogy Society paperwork at the Blauvelt-Demarest Foundation when I go back down to New Jersey. All of the notes from both books and Rev David D. Demarest's papers are there. I can also get Aleck added into the genealogy with your evidence. Sometimes it's the curious find that gets things straightened out.
Also, please look for my genealogy page on Facebook. It's called "Grandchildren of David and Marie Sohier desMarets" and we try to help while we have a bit of fun. I started the group over three years ago and now we are getting close to having 500 Demarest related folks.
