Sorry to have lost sight of this - in the meantime have been working on registers of Christ Church, Rio de Janeiro. It seems that Carlota and Barton had three children in Brazil:

Grace Roscoe, born 28/7/1854 (baptised 28/9/1854)
Carlota Annie, born 5/8/1855 (baptised 25/11/1855)
Edith Denby, born 23?/1/1860 (baptised 2/8/1860)
[no obvious reason for the large gap - nothing in burials either; I wonder what happened to Carlota Annie as she seems absent also from the 1871 census?]

Carlota seems to have been the sister of:

- Sophia Amelia (married 13/7/1841 Benjamin Delap Thompson)
- Virginia Caroline (born 1830-1836**, married 26/6/1848 George Armitage Thompson - they had at least six children born in Rio de Janeiro)
- William Charles (born c1828, cannot find a marriage for him)
- Pedro (born 9/9/1835, bapt 29/8/1841)

all children of John & Gertrude Denby.

** the marriage specifically required parental consent

Does that seem about right?
