Really good to hear from you.
the plantation that was owned by Poppa Dendy's family, did indeed have many slaves.
I was horrified to learn from my father once, that 18 slaves were given to a Dendy relative as a wedding present!
My information is very sketchy, but I was told that the name of tha Plantaton was "Tugaloo" and I just looked it up , and there is a river buy thaat name which may have been the location of that Plantation.
My search is just beginning, but let's keep in touch and see what information we can come up with!!!
I know tha;t the Dendy's have been here a very long time, and we may have been decended from James Dendy, who came to Virginia in 1653!
Several great Aunt's belonged to the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) so our lineage goes back quite a bit!
I am very excited to hear from you, since you are the only person who has known about the famiy coming from Dundee.
I had an e-mail from an Ian Dendy, in Glasgow ( spelling wrong?) asking about the origin of the name, also I just put the origin of the name on the Geneology site, and it will be available in a cooupe of days.
I was born and brought up in New York city, but most of the Dendy's in my family come from around Elloree, So. Carolina
Keep in touch!
Susan Elizabeth Burns Dendy
