Rick, et al. I have also seen Jacob Dendy given as the father of William Dendy, born c. 1710, died 1757 in Halifax County, Virginia. However, I do not believe this is documented. The only reference I have been able to find to a Jacob Dendy is in an old DAR application. The DAR accepted it, but he wasn't the Revolutionary War veteran, so that would not have been their primary concern.
If Jacob was indeed the father of William Dendy, born about 1710, I doubt he could have been with Cromwell. The Scots were indeed prominent in fighting against King Charles under Cromwell, but the dates don't work out for someone who had a kid born after 1700. The first major battle of the rebellion was at Edge Hill in 1642. King Charles was finally defeated by the Scots at Naseby in July 1645 and turned over to Parliament, which executed him a few years later (1649 I believe).
Would be interested in what the old book you have has to say about Jacob and his children. If you see this message, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org
