There was a Ferdinand Dennig who lived in Marion County OH. I found him there on 1880 & 1910 census. Census reports indicate he was born about 1836, a bit older than the Fred you're looking for. I don't know if this Ferdinand served in the Civil War. He and his wife Catherine Scheckley were b. Baden. Children listed on census were:
George, Anna, Margaret, Adolphus and Martha.
