The Blackwater River is the longest river in Ireland. Its headwaters is located near Millstreet, which in turn is located about 10 miles SE of Kanturk.Kanturk was the seat of the Kanturk Workhouse during the Genocide of 1845-50, which the English are so fond of calling the "Famine".
The Mass Grave of the Kanturk Workhouse is about three miles out of Kanturk in the direction of Millstreet. My relatives spirits live there. They were dumped into a hole and had lye poured on them by the English.I know their names.
The English took their property, as the price for entering the workhouse, and then they took the food from the fields and sent it to England. The took the cattle, pigs and butter. They took everything.
Ellen Denahy is my grandmother, and the area is abundant with variations of the name. There used to be a lot of Wallaces there but not too many today.
