I was just checking this site to see if I could find any information about the name, I'm from a small place called Drumreilly in south Leitrim, just on the border of Cavan and Longford. I must confess that I have'nt done much research on the subject before. What I do know about the name is that it originates in east Cavan, Meath and Slane in Co. Louth. It is probable that the name is derived from a specific task associated with the high kings of the time. The name deriving from tempestous, fierce and wise, a contradiction in itself. It is also apparant that there were more female offspring or not too many males believed in marriage. The name has not spread far from it's soarce in ireland, although there are some in cork. The majority emmigrated(US,Canada and Austrailia). In case it helps anyone, my fathers name is Patrick, his father was Eugene married to ellen Egan and who died and was buried at home in 1981 at the age of 93, his father was Michael, but his details are not at hand as this was a little impulsive. They are available however. I also can obtain information on relations(inlaws and outlaws). I've only started to check on this today. It will probably be easier for me to find all this out as i live in ireland. I,ll post everthing i find out, so the best of luck to all of you.
