Dening/Denning brothers from Devon to NY-Daniel, Frank & James
Posted by: CHARMAINE CAMPANY (ID *****1955) Date: November 12, 2012 at 05:14:36

DANIEL first came to America in the spring of 1849, landing at Sacketts Harbor NY where he found a home with a man named Ben Orchard who was from Devon himself. Daniel later married Sarah Lane who also had come from England. Daniel settled in Lewis County NY in about 1851. He would develop a large dairy farm and built a creamery named Crystal Springs Cheese Factory.

A good report of America from Daniel brought his brother FRANK to this country in 1851 and the two brothers lived next door until 1853 when Frank moved with his family to Wisconsin where he ran a boarding house for a lumber camp, in the spring he returned because the climate there did not agree with him and he relocated further into the wilderness in the area of Montague.

JAMES came in April 1953 and made his home with Daniel until 1859 when he married Elizabeth Stuckey a native of Switzerland. They settled nearby but James would leave his new family and 2 week old infant son to enlist in the Civil War in the 9th NY where he joined in the Battle of Bull Run, South Mountain and Antietam where he was shot through the lung. Miracle of sorts he lived to age 89!

Would enjoy hearing from descendants as we would like to publish the genealogy.
