There are several branches of the Dennis family that came to Ohio from what I can piece together. I have met few people who can trace to my branch but here is what I have--John Dennis born in 1773 in Tyrone County, Ireland. Served in the militia for four years and was discharged in July, 1797. He married Eleanor Dennis (his cousin) in 1809. Their children were: Hugh, Francis, John, James, William, Ann, Eleanor and Margaret. In 1839 Francis (a farmer) and James (a blacksmith) came to Ohio (they chose Ohio because other relatives had come before them supposedly but I'm not sure how or why I know that). In 1842, John (the father), Eleanor and the remaining six children came to St. Albans township. I am descended from the son James. James married Francis Kendall. Their children were Julia, Patrick, Octavia, Rhoda, Fidelia (my great grandmother), Wilson (Fidelia's twin), Amanda and Joel (Joel and Edson? Dennis formed the law firm of Dennis and Dennis in Newark, OH).
