I have hit a bit of a wall in my family tree. I have traced back one part of my line to a Cornelia Dennis - my research shows she was born on / about the 4th of October 1738 in Queeens, New York.
I did find a Census entry for a Cornelia Dennis for the year 1895 for the state of New Jersey. I find it difficult to believe that considering where she was born she would have to travel for a census. However, it is possible the familiy moved to New Jersey.
There are 3 things I am trying to track down:
1) Who are the parents of this person?
2) Did the entire family move to Canada as Empire Loyalists?
3) The answer to the 2nd question will pretty well point to the answer to this question - the location of her marriage to John Daniel Meloney. Both records are more or less unsubstantiated: one has the location as being after her arrival in Sydney (Cape Breton) Nova Scotia; the second has the marriage occuring in 1775 in Middleboro, New York. considering the date, both are within the realm of possibility
Any help would be appreciated.
