William S. Dennis was born February 16, 1831 in Roane County, TN. He moved to Camden County, MO in 1859, and to Wright County, MO in 1867. He was ordained a Baptist minister October 9, 1867. a Master Mason and served in the Union army, Light Infantry, during the Civil War. He was discharged November 20, 1865. He died March 21, 1909 and is buried in Dennis cemetery near Mansfield, MO.

Rev. W. S. Dennis was born in Roane County, Tenn., in 1831, and is a
son of Joseph and Mary (Brown) Dennis, who were born in Tennessee in
1802 and 1806, and died in Wright County, Mo., in 1880 and 1878,
respectively. They became residents of Missouri in 1859, and were the
parents of fourteen childrenThe paternal grandparents, Joseph and Mrs. (Beason) Dennis.
