Christan/Christiana Deppen, 1732 in PA?
Peter Bruecker, a Mennonite reputedly of Zweibruecken (in the Palatinate, within today's Germany) and born in 1700, came to America in 1732 on the ship Pink Plaisance. With him was his wife Christan or Christiana, and their two very young daughters. They settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Christan, said to have been born in 1703, also in Zweibruecken, passed away after having one more child, Peter Jr., around 1735.
We have heard that Christan's maiden name was "Deppen". Can anyone confirm? Does anyone know whether the family did, in fact, come from the Zweibruecken area? Peter's family was of Swiss origin, having fled Bern Canton to escape religious persecution some forty to fifty years before he left for Pennsylvania. Perhaps Christan's family was also from there, as the Mennonites of Swiss origin tended to live close to others with the same background wherever they migrated to. It is possible these families spent their years before leaving for America in the Palatinate and/or Alsace.
Any help with questions appreciated!
